Facebook Improves Security
By Ian Scott
Back in early March, I deactivated my Facebook account but recently decided to reactivate it for business reasons. When I logged into my account, I took a bit of time to figure out what had changed. One of the things I discovered I was pleased with was a new security feature that Facebook has implemented. It’s similar to what Gmail has in that when you log into your account, you can see where the last activity was from.
As well, you can give your Facebook account the option to name the computer or device you are logging into with, and if another device logs in subsequently, you’ll receive an email advising you of that fact if you select that option.
This new feature was something I discovered – Facebook did not tell me about it, so you may not know about it yourself. In order to find it, you will need to click on the “Account” tab on the upper right side, and then “Account Settings.” Scroll down and you should see “Account Security.” Click on the “Change” link beside it, and you’ll get something like this:

Also, if you log in to Facebook from a device, for example the library, and forget to log out, you will be able to end the activity of the other device that is still logged in. You’ll see something like this:

You’ll see both sessions as above with the option to end the activity of the other device.
Hovering over the blue location text will also provide you with the IP address of the device.
